Cleaning supplies to buy for window cleaning
We love our houses but no one likes to clean them day in and day out. However, houses need cleaning regularly and one of the most challenging parts of domestic cleaning is window cleaning. Windows can get foggy, mucky or just accumulate dust overtime thereby inhibiting the daylight to find its way inside the house in addition to looking shabby. If you are looking to clean your windows, you have three options at your disposal: hire a cleaning company, do it yourself or hire individual cleaning contractors. With the latter two options, you might need to get some supplies in place for the cleaning. Below is a list of commonly used cleaning equipment that you will need for cleaning your windows:
1. Cleaning liquid
This is basic to all cleaning tasks. You will need washing up liquid and a window cleaning agent such as Mr. Muscle glass cleaner, Flash Glass Spray and such like. You can use the washing up liquid to clean the windows and use the cleaning agents where the former doesn’t do the required job. You may also go for a stronger washing up liquid such as Ettore’s Squeegee Off.
2. Applicators
Once you have the liquid in place (doesn’t matter what liquid you are using), you will need to apply it on the glass. It is always recommended to use a proper applicator to do so. The most common equipment used in this regard is the T-Bar applicator. T-Bar applicators are far more superior to regular sponges (which also need regular changing). You can opt for a disassembled T-Bar applicator for more flexibility with usage. If using sponges to apply, you may want to invest in a good pair of protective gloves to keep the skin safe from the chemicals in the cleaning liquids.
3. Scrappers
Every now and then, you will come across really stubborn stains (dried paint) on your windows that simply do not comply with regular methods of cleaning. This is where the scrappers come in to play. Found on all professional cleaners, scrapper might come in handy at home as well. Instead of going berserk on your windows with rough cloth, paper, and what not, it is easy to simply use a window scrapper or scrapper blades. Window scrapper come with ‘easy to hold’ handles while as the scrapper blades are medium sized blades that come in packs of ten and are to be used with accompanying scrappers.
4. Squeegee
Squeegees are a must for window cleaning. This underrated piece of cleaning equipment is crucial in professional cleaning services; however, we tend to overlook it while cleaning windows at home. Squeegees are tools with a long handle and a flat rubber blade used to wipe off the water from the glass thereby, avoiding any water/cleaning stains. You have the choice of buying either a complete squeegee or a disassembled one for more flexibility. However, for domestic cleaning, the former is highly recommended.
5. Other things you might need
You might want a scrim or a prewashed microfiber cloth to shine up those windows after a good cleaning session. You can use window or glass polish to make the process doubly effective. Also remember to buy the essentials (if you do not already have them at home), such as, a bucket, ladders for high windows and cleaning poles to reach those corners at the unreachable ends. If you are going to be cleaning high windows, you might want to consider getting yourself a tool belt that you can wear while cleaning the windows, standing on a ladder.
