Terrific Window Cleaning Tips from Pros
There is no denying that clean windows make our homes look glamorous. Not only do our homes look impressively tidy with neat and clean windows, they can also have a positive effect on us in daily life. It feels so great to wake up to the first rays of sun shining through the sparkling windows of your bedroom. However, as good as clean windows can look, cleaning them can be a daunting task at times, especially, if you have to focus on minute details. So here are a few tips for keeping your windows stain free and spotless.
- Avoid cleaning on warm sunny days
First and foremost, you really want to make sure that you pick a rather gloomy and cloudy day for cleaning your windows. Contrary to the popular belief that a sunny day is better for cleaning the windows – as there is more light -, cleaning windows on a sunny day can result in more marks on your window panes. Why does this happen? When a cleaning solution is applied to a warm glass, the heat dries up the liquid quickly and leaves marks behind.
- Picking up the right window cleaner
Although there are so many options to choose from, it’s important and recommended to buy a glass cleaner that is non abrasive and gives you streak-free windows. It may surprise you how a simple mixture of dish soap and vinegar can go a long way in giving you the best results. It’s not difficult to put these simple household items to use for cleaning your windows. All you need to do is mix dish soap and vinegar in the ratio of 2:1 and add the mixture in a bucket of water. It is important to remember that we don’t want the mixture to be too soapy as that can lead to the formation of streaks on the panes and defeat the whole purpose of cleaning.
- Get rid of stickers and labels
You may have spent a good number of days believing that the labels stuck on your windows are impossible to take off. But what if you were told that there exists a super potion called isopropyl alcohol that can wipe the sticker stains right off? All you need to do is dab a corner of your cotton cleaning cloth in the potion and rub it over the adhesive/label. For best results, you might want to give it a minute before you start pulling off the sticker. Acetone which is more commonly available (your nail paint removers or lemon juice), can do the job well as well.
- Dry with a clean cloth
Never ever use paper towels, or dirty rags to dry the cleaned windows. You will only end up leaving lint, or sometimes dust and hair strands sticking to the window panes. Always use a clean cloth, an old clean cotton T shirt will do just fine or even a clean newspaper will work. An important point to remember is to reach out for corners of the window panes well to make sure all the soapy residue has been washed and dried off. This will give you the kind of cleaning you can expect from professional cleaners.
- Polish with paste
The tiny scratches on the windows can take away from the accomplishment after all the effort you put in cleaning your windows. You can use your everyday toothpaste to take care of this problem. Apply a generous amount of any toothpaste that contains baking soda, on a clean cloth, and rub gently over the scratches in circular motions. Do so for about 40 seconds. After that, you can clean the toothpaste off and wipe it dry with a clean damp cotton cloth.
